Twitter Social Media Spam Bot Explicit Content Fraud Prevention

Twitter suffers from bots and accounts issues promoting explicit and adult content. These contents have spread across the social media platform and reached people’s direct messages. Experts claimed that there could not be any solution for the issue yet.

Elon Musk, who recently bought the social media company, claimed that his team would tackle the issues regarding bots and fake accounts on Twitter, but they have yet to come up with a solution to address such problems.

Numerous security researchers flagged many Twitter spam accounts that started following and sending unwanted DMs to them.

Many research teams have also noticed that the spam accounts initiate interaction by liking and replying to their posts.

One example is that a security group exposed several Twitter accounts that are spam bots trying to inject themselves by executing interactions such as likes. This strategy is to lure users into viewing the profiles of these bot accounts and clicking on links listed in their bio. However, researchers noticed that the links redirect users to dating and NSFW websites.

Researchers have also expressed their concerns since the platform has yet to enforce any effective or novel solution to address the spam and bot issues despite suspending numerous bot accounts that suddenly appeared after the acquisition.

This issue has been a significant concern for the social media company for years, and it has not changed despite Musk’s announcement that he and his team will eradicate the spam bots under their management. Unfortunately, spam bots are winning the battle of attrition in the Twitterverse.

On the other hand, Elon Musk has removed the blue badges from accounts verified under the former qualification and replaced them with a paid system for everyone. This move allowed the new company owner to take down the system, which he called the “lords & peasants” system. However, he admitted that he retained the blue tick for some well-known accounts by paying them from his pocket.

Unfortunately, these minor problems are still insignificant to the problems caused by bots. Therefore, if Twitter cannot implement a streamlined process to keep the fake accounts and bots away, the issues that lurk within will still cause a problem for Twitter users.
