One of Japan’s most prominent zipper manufacturing companies, YKK, confirmed that its United States-based operation had been the subject of a cyberattack earlier this week. However, the company allegedly claimed that it could address the situation before it caused damage to them.
This Tokyo-based operation has yet to declare the nature of the cybercriminal attack, whether ransomware or a data breach incident. Additionally, the company had allegedly addressed the situation quickly before the attack harmed or stole sensitive information from their US-based systems.
The vice president of corporate communications in YKK Corporation of America stated that the incident did not impact their operations or their ability to continue serving their customers.
The company is home to more than 44,000 employees globally and has over $6 billion in annual earnings. This corporation is also one of the world’s largest zipper manufacturers that could also produce other products, such as fasteners, plastic goods, and industrial machinery.
The YKK zipper manufacturing firm assured its customers that the attack did not impact any information.
According to YKK, their investigation showed no evidence that the cybercriminal incident acquired financial, personal, or intellectual property. The company has also reminded its customers that they take cybersecurity seriously and thanked their shareholders for their continued support.
The YKK zipper manufacturing firm has yet to respond to further questions regarding the nature of the attack. They have also been distant in responding to the allegations that they have provided the ransom requested by the attackers.
On the other hand, LockBit posted YKK on its data leak website. The group threatened to expose the stolen data on June 16. The notorious group included YKK in their list of different organisations that suffered an attack from them.
The LockBit ransomware group remained the most prolific ransomware operation globally since it has more than doubled the number of attacks launched compared to its competitors.
This year, the group has targeted various industries, such as bus companies, churches, government offices, and law enforcement organisations. Therefore, organisations should have a robust cybersecurity solution to avoid these attacks.
