The hardware manufacturer, A10 Networks, in California has disclosed that the Play ransomware group has temporarily accessed its Information Technology (IT) infrastructure and compromised troves of data.

A10 Networks is a manufacturing company specialising in developing software and hardware application delivery controllers (ADC), bandwidth management appliances, and identity management solutions. Additionally, this compromised company also advertises firewall and DDoS mitigation services.

Some of its famous customers include LinkedIn, Alibaba, China Mobile, Windows Azure, Xbox, Yahoo, Sony Pictures, Comcast, Uber, NTT Communications Deutsche Telekom, Samsung, Softbank, GE Healthcare, GoDaddy, Twitter, and Huffington Post.

Based on reports, the affected company stated that the cybersecurity issue happened in the last week of January. It lasted several hours before their IT team disrupted the intrusion and controlled the increase in damage.

The A10 Networks security team claimed that the attackers used several tools to access its systems.

The investigation conducted by the security team within A10 Networks identified that the adversaries gained access to its shared drivers and deployed malware. This incident allowed the actors to compromise financial, legal functions, and human resources data.

The firm claimed that the cybersecurity campaign has allegedly caused no damage to its products, solutions, and customers despite having a successful intrusion.

The A10 Networks’ security reported having contained the Play ransomware attack within its networks with the aid of a third-party security team. The company has already informed the appropriate law enforcement authorities regarding the incident.

As per an A10 Networks representative, it is believed the attack would not have a lasting impact on the company’s operations.

However, the ransomware group added A10 Networks to its extortion website earlier this week. These attackers threatened the company that they would leak the stolen files if they could not acquire the ransom.

The Play ransomware operators obtained confidential files such as client documents, agreements, and personal data aside from technical documentation and employee details.

The recent claims of the Play ransomware could have a massive impact on the reputation of A10 Networks. Therefore, this company will have a hard time if this incident continues.
