The SiegedSec hacktivist group disclosed an ongoing operation called “Operation Philippines,” which targets the current administration of the Philippine government by compromising its agencies. One of our researchers in iZOOlogic stated that the hacktivist group’s announcement came from a post on a known forum.
According to the group, they executed their attack as a protest against the Philippine government’s status. The published post explained that the attackers are disappointed with the country’s living wages and high inflation rate, hence, executing an attack to bring the attention of the country leaders and take action.
SiegedSec hacktivist group hacked TESDA and leaked the stolen data.
Based on reports, the SiegedSec hacktivist group TESDA’s systems and exposed troves of data they had stolen during the breach.
The Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) is one of the Philippines’ most efficient and influential government entities in skills development. The agency has been honing workers for years by providing numerous pieces of training for different technical skills.
This government agency offers different courses that provide certificates to Filipino citizens who need to apply for jobs. Some courses they offer are electrical, automotive, driving, baking, welding, digital methods, computer-related and software development, building construction, and more.
Unfortunately, Operation Philippines compromised the agency’s integrity as the SiegedSec hacktivist group exposed the stolen data from TESDA.
Several sources claimed the leaked information contained troves of data from various files in TESDA’s internal network. The confirmed data within the files are Personal Identifiable Information (PII), private documents, and source codes.
The hackers have also emphasised the lack of sophistication of the agency in terms of their cybersecurity as they have infiltrated the networks easily. Based on the post, the attackers said that the credentials for the networks were everywhere and “as if they the key to their door in our paws.”
Finally, the post ends by urging everyone to take action about the relevant issues a country suffers. The group also wants the political leaders and people in power to improve the livelihood of their fellow citizens.
