In recent news, the hacktivist group known as “Anonymous Algeria” has taken responsibility for a series of cyberattacks targeting the UAE Banks Association and the Alcabana travel website.

The group conveyed its motives via their Telegram channel, citing their actions as a direct response to perceived betrayal by the UAE Foreign Minister in the framework of the United Nations.

According to the hacktivist group, the UAE Foreign Minister accused Hamas of being a terrorist organisation while allegedly turning a blind eye to ongoing violations and daily crimes committed by the Israeli entity, leading to the loss of innocent lives, including children and civilians in Gaza.

The group boldly asserted in their Telegram post, “Our Anonymous Algeria team succeeded in hacking the ‘UAE Banks Association’ and the ‘Alcabana’ travel website and recovering all bank accounts.” This claim suggests a potentially serious breach, raising concerns about the security of sensitive financial information.

Anonymous Algeria issued threats of additional punitive cyberattacks against the UAE, vowing to respond firmly to what they perceive as the UAE’s betrayal and immoral actions.

It is essential to note that this threat group declared their solidarity with Gaza, highlighting that their actions stem from a desire to support the people of Gaza amid the ongoing conflicts in the region.

As of now, the UAE government has not issued an official response to these allegations and threats. The response from the UAE, as well as the international community, remains a subject of keen interest, stressing the evolving dynamics of cyber warfare and hacktivism in the context of complex international conflicts.

The situation underscores the pressing need for governments and organisations to bolster their cybersecurity measures in the face of increasingly sophisticated cyber threats. The world will be closely monitoring how the UAE addresses these cyberattacks and whether Anonymous Algeria follows through on their promised actions.

The iZOOlogic research team is actively monitoring this issue and will promptly deliver updates as they unfold.
