Mayanei Hayeshua Medical Center Tel Aviv Israel Ransomware Cyberattack

The Mayanei Hayeshua Medical Center, an Israeli hospital based in Tel Aviv, has sustained a cybercriminal campaign from an unknown group of cybercriminals. Based on reports, the healthcare institution has immediately halted its admission of new patients and redirected people to nearby hospitals following the confirmation of the hack.

Moreover, the Israeli hospital immediately shut down its computer systems to contain the hack. The firm also claimed the cyberattack had not compromised its medical equipment and gears.

Fortunately, patients in the middle of treatment or operation did not suffer any interruption and are still cared for by its staff. However, the firm advised that incoming patients or those needing immediate healthcare attention should find other medical institutions.

The hospital’s admin took to social media, explaining that they are busy and have been doing every necessary action to bring the hospital back to its standard operation while protecting its data. On the other hand, the hospital’s website became inaccessible, and the company has yet to disclose further details about the attack.

No threat actors have yet to claim that attack on the Mayanei Hayeshua Medical Center.

Researchers have yet to attribute the Mayanei Hayeshua Medical Center attack to any threat group, and no actors have claimed responsibility. However, Israel has received financially motivated attacks in the past few years.

Last year, a China-backed hacking group shut down the computer systems of one of Israel’s largest hospitals. The campaign cost about $10 million to recover from the ransomware attack.

Furthermore, Israel may have suffered another attack earlier this year. Iranian threat actors have allegedly attacked the shipping and logistics companies of the country and harvested information about its users.

The Israeli cybersecurity representatives said that the Iranian government have also been sponsoring numerous ransomware attacks that target one of their leading technology universities. Lastly, Israel has been targeted by pro-Russian hackers after they supported Ukraine.

These cyberattacks caused by rivalry among nations have surged lately. However, attacking a healthcare institution that treats patients is the worse, as it costs life if not addressed immediately.
