Anonymous Sudan, a notorious threat group, has issued a new warning to Nigerian orgs, raising concerns about potential cyberattacks. The group boldly posted its threat on their Telegram channel, stating that Nigeria should brace for impending cyber attacks purportedly for today, August 2, 2023.
The warning has alarmed cybersecurity experts, given Anonymous Sudan’s history of targeting prominent organisations and government entities with large-scale Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks.
In the message, Anonymous Sudan emphasised that their cyber warfare campaign is far from over, and they have not yet concluded their attacks against Kenya. Kenya has also been on high alert as the group readies itself for a more potentially devastating cyberattack against the country.
Cybersecurity experts urge Nigerian orgs to be extra vigilant and reinforce their cyber defences to prevent damages from the attacks.
Last July 27, iZOOlogic security researchers reported that Kenya’s crucial infrastructures, including the eCitizen website and the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA), had become the threat group’s targets.
Anonymous Sudan’s aggressive DDoS attacks temporarily disrupted the Kenyan government websites, causing concerns over potential data breaches and operational disruptions. Fortunately, immediate precautionary actions have restored the sites to normal operations.
The threat group is known for launching targeted attacks on high-profile targets, causing disruptions and exposing sensitive data. Meanwhile, Kenya remains on edge, guarding their digital infrastructure to prevent any attempts by the threat group.
iZOOlogic security researchers stress the need for proactive measures to safeguard critical infrastructures not only within Nigeria and Kenya but also across the world.
As Anonymous Sudan’s threats extend beyond national boundaries, cooperation between cybersecurity agencies and government bodies becomes vital in mitigating potential attacks and neutralising the threat group’s impact.
Governments, organisations, and individuals must remain vigilant and proactive in safeguarding their digital assets against potential attacks from malicious entities.
Our team of experts in iZOOlogic is diligently monitoring the situation and will provide real-time updates as the situation develops.
