Cybersecurity VS Software Engineering Concepts Intertwined Vulnerability Management 1

Cybersecurity and software engineering are two intertwined yet distinct concepts within the information technology field.

What is Software engineering?

Software Engineering is a part of computer science that designs, develops, tests and maintains software apps. Software engineers will then apply engineering principles and their expertise in programming languages to build software solutions for end users, including Cyber Security solutions.

Cybersecurity refers to applying defined technologies, cybersecurity software and control processes to protect systems and data from cyber-attacks.

Cybersecurity, refers to the application of defined technologies, cyber security software and apps, programs and network devices, and control processes to protect systems and data from cyber-attacks. The primary aim of cybersecurity is to reduce cybersecurity risks and protect assets and organisational infrastructures from unauthorised exploitation and misuse of data, systems, networks, and digital assets.

In terms of daily operations, Software engineering concentrates more on developing robust applications, creating, programming, updating, versioning and managing software applications. In comparison, cybersecurity focuses on the daily protection of these developed applications with their stored data from malicious exploitation, cyber threats, hackers, data theft, brand abuse and misuse, and privacy abuse.

Currently, the software vulnerabilities are the prime targets for cyberattacks, as threat actors and hackers orchestrate malicious campaigns. The number of daily cyber-attacks has been at its highest these past few years. Managing software vulnerabilities has to be done on a regular basis in order to assess, identify, record, report and remediate identified exploitable vulnerabilities. iZOOlogic can assist in integrating vulnerability management tools to detect software flaws and utilise processes to patch or remediate them.

The collaboration between these two disciplines is vital for every organisation, government and financial institution to manage and secure business-critical software to withstand the latest evolving cyber threats in the wild.
