An ongoing DDoS attack is targeting Bohemia Interactive’s infrastructure, stopping DayZ and Arma Reforger players from accessing the games online.
Bohemia Interactive is a Czech video game developer and publisher popular for its renowned Arma Series tactical shooters and DayZ. Last week, players of Bohemia’s games started experiencing server connectivity troubles, preventing them from playing online.
On Monday, the game publisher recognised the issues, apologised to the community for the disturbance and requested patience while they worked to remedy them. However, the problems persist, and the community’s tolerance has slowly decreased. Many are requesting refunds and accusing Bohemia of not being transparent about the issue.
Arma Platform announced on a social media site that they are still working on a solution and are doing everything to get their players back in the game as soon as possible. Nonetheless, the message did not include any ETAs or specifications about the problem, and they refused to give information about what was going on, only stating that they could not discuss the subject or the specifics of its work.
DDoS ransom attacks allegedly caused Bohemia Interactive’s recent cybersecurity mishaps.
Speculations about Bohemia Interactive’s recent struggle with their games are supposedly the result of persisting DDoS attacks.
Moreover, a hacker group dubbed ‘styled squad reborn’ has claimed responsibility for the ongoing DDoS attack, but their role in the entire operation remains unknown. The actors have also aggravated the situation on a social media platform by claiming that the game developer is not completely honest with their promises of game-related fixes.
There are also unconfirmed rumours that the attackers are requesting a ransom payment to cease the attack and prevent further financial damages. However, the attackers later claimed the Bitcoin demand was just a prank.
Others argue that the motivation is politically motivated, claiming that hacktivists are involved in attacking BI since some hackers oppose the portrayal of war atrocities in the games, particularly on Ukraine vs. Russia servers.
Still, with Bohemia Interactive refusing to clarify what is causing the network disruptions, it is unclear what is the current status of the incident.
