One of the world’s most significant energy service-related providers, Halliburton, confirmed that a recent cyberattack has forced it to shut down some parts of its IT systems.

Earlier this week, the company became aware that an unauthorised third-party entity has acquired access to certain parts of its systems. This discovery was immediately revealed after the firm filed a report to the SEC.

After identifying the illegal access, it immediately deployed its cybersecurity response plan and initiated an internal investigation, aided by third-party advisers, to assess and resolve the issue.

The company noted that the event, initially reported by another platform based on information provided by unidentified sources, caused them to shut down several systems to control the breach.

The oil giant also notified the relevant law enforcement agencies and company IT professionals of the intrusion to help them restore affected devices and determine the attack’s overall impact.

Halliburton immediately isolated the compromised parts of its IT systems to prevent the malicious campaign from spreading and causing further damage.

Halliburton oil company explained that they proactively took countermeasures after discovering the attack by taking certain parts of its systems offline to protect them and immediately contacted the authorities.

The company also stated that its ongoing investigation and response involve system restoration and materiality evaluation. It also communicates regularly with its consumers and other stakeholders.

Furthermore, its team adheres to its process-based safety standards for ongoing operations under the Halliburton Management System and tries to determine the exact impact of the incident. However, the oil services company has yet to identify the nature of the attack, with a Department of Energy official saying that the specifics of the incident are unknown.

This company was founded in 1919 and is home to more than 40,000 workers. It delivers oil technologies, products, and services to energy industries worldwide. Last month, Halliburton reported $5.8 billion in revenues and an 18% operating profit for the second quarter of this year.

Halliburton has yet to provide further information about the incident as its investigation into the hacking incident is still ongoing.
