Targus, a well-known laptop and tablet accessories brand, recently faced a cyberattack that disrupted its operations. The company, known for its stylish laptop bags and other accessories, found itself in an unfavourable situation after threat actors had successfully infiltrated its file servers.

The cybercriminal attack came to light when Targus’ parent company, B. Riley Financial, INC., revealed the breach in a filing with the SEC. Earlier this month, Targus allegedly detected unauthorised access by threat actors on its network, prompting the activation of its incident response protocols.

Upon discovery, Targus immediately contacted external cybersecurity experts to investigate and contain the breach. As a precautionary measure, the company temporarily stopped its business operations to prevent further spread of the attack to other systems and devices.

While Targus has assured that they have contained the incident and are working towards restoring their internal systems, the full extent of the damage remains uncertain. It is also unclear whether the hackers have stolen any corporate data. Still, data exfiltration is possible, given the hackers’ access to the company’s file systems.

Targus has already reported the incident to relevant parties that could help them address the situation.

Reports stated that Targus had notified regulatory authorities and law enforcement agencies in response to the breach. They also assured everyone they would be transparent and comply with data breach protocols. However, the company has not disclosed details regarding the real identity of the perpetrators of the attack.

Cybersecurity incidents like these highlight the importance of proper cybersecurity measures for businesses, especially those handling and storing sensitive information. Despite the disruption caused by the attack, Targus is taking necessary methods to lessen the impact of the alleged breach and prevent similar incidents in the future.

Organisations must prioritise proper cybersecurity solutions and invest in proactive measures to protect their networks and data from evolving threats. As cyberattacks continue to pose significant risks to businesses in various countries, maintaining vigilance and preparedness should be the priority of every company in the modern digital landscape.
