SurveyLama Data Breach Compromised Data Europe

Recent research revealed that SurveyLama, an online platform known for its surveys that reward users, has suffered a data breach incident. Based on reports, the breach occurred earlier this year, putting the sensitive information of 4.4 million users at risk.

SurveyLama, owned by the French company Globe Media, has acquired praise from its users for its attractive rewards, fast payments, and flexible withdrawal options. However, these perks became the cause of concern since the breach exposed many personal data, including dates of birth, email addresses, IP addresses, full names, passwords, phone numbers, and physical addresses.

The affected entity became aware of the incident after a concerned user alerted relevant individuals about the breach, which notified SurveyLama. Subsequently, the company has verified the authenticity of the compromised data. Upon contacting the company, they confirmed the security incident and claimed to have already emailed affected users.

SurveyLama has confirmed that the data breach affects more than 4 million accounts.

SurveyLama stated that the compromised dataset verified that the data breach incident had compromised the information of over 4 million accounts.

Still, the company reinforced assurance to its users after claiming that their stored passwords were stored in hashed forms such as salted SHA-1, bcrypt, or argon2. On the other hand, security researchers warn that hashed, more secure passwords are not immune to brute-force attacks.

In response to the breach, researchers urge users to reset their passwords immediately, not only on SurveyLama but also on any other platforms where they may have used the same credentials.

As of now, there is no evidence of the compromised data being publicly available or misused, but the potential consequences could be severe for victims if they become apparent.

Despite the breach not being public knowledge, the possibility of the dataset falling into the wrong hands is a significant problem since cybercriminals could use this information for other illicit campaigns.

SurveyLama users must take proactive measures to protect their personal information. By resetting passwords and exercising caution when sharing sensitive data online, users can mitigate the potential effect of this breach and protect themselves from future cyber threats.
