The Bangladesh-based hacking group Mysterious Team Bangladesh has issued a new threat against the Indian government. This announcement follows a series of DDoS attacks that targeted Indian firms and institutions earlier this year, as previously reported by iZOOlogic security researchers.

The group, which had claimed responsibility for DDoS attacks on Indian news websites and businesses, initially cited reasons such as perceived Islamophobic behaviour as their motivations for the attacks. While the recent attacks on Indian entities have subsided, ‘Mysterious Team Bangladesh’ appears to have escalated its ambitions.

On September 11, 2023, Mysterious Team Bangladesh declared to target the Indian government.

Specific details about which government organisations or Indian companies will be targeted and the tactics the threat group plans to employ are still undisclosed.

In light of this ongoing threat, iZOOlogic’s security experts are urging Indian companies to remain vigilant, even in the aftermath of the G20 Summit, which took place in the country on September 9th and 10th, 2023. The Summit drew significant attention from around the world, and security measures were heightened to ensure the safety of all participants.

It is crucial to note that in the lead-up to the G20 Summit, a coalition of threat actors had already threatened India through the “opIndia” campaign. This campaign raised concerns about potential cyberattacks and security breaches during the high-profile international event.

The cybersecurity community and relevant authorities continue closely monitoring the situation, recognising that DDoS attacks pose significant threats to compromised entities. Mysterious Team Bangladesh’s actions appear rooted in hacktivism, focusing on exploiting computer systems for social or political motives.

Experts recommend that government agencies and organisations in India conduct thorough vulnerability assessments on their web servers, maintain up-to-date security patches, deploy robust DDoS protection services, and take measures to block suspicious IP addresses and geolocations. Addressing any vulnerable endpoints that malicious actors could exploit is also crucial.

The cybersecurity community and relevant authorities remain committed to assessing the credibility of this latest threat and implementing appropriate countermeasures to safeguard Indian institutions and infrastructure from potential cyberattacks.

Further updates on this developing situation will be provided as more information becomes available.

Update: In a concerning development detected by iZOOlogic researchers, the Mysterious Team Bangladesh threat group has made an announcement on their Telegram channel, declaring their intention to launch a cyberattack on the Indian cyberspace scheduled for September 19, 2023, Tuesday. This announcement comes as a grave escalation in their ongoing campaign against the Indian government and entities.
