Anonymous Sudan Hacker Group Cyberattacks India DDOS Cybercrime Hacktivist

The Anonymous Sudan hacktivist group posted on Twitter that their next targets are Indian orgs, emphasising that they will focus on compromising different organisations within the country.

Anonymous Sudan has been executing distributed denial-of-service attacks against numerous Swedish organisations since 2023. This group claimed they were a hacktivist group purely motivated by political interests rather than financial ones. The group’s name states that the actors are based in Sudan.

Several reports revealed the actual motive of the actors as it already executed numerous activities despite their short existence in the cybercriminal landscape.

However, a researcher explained that “Anonymous Sudan” has no affiliation with the well-known Anonymous hacktivist group. On the other hand, some analysts claimed that the threat actors created the group as part of a Russian information campaign that harms and complicates Sweden’s mission in joining the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO).

The Anonymous Sudan hacktivist group eyes their next target – Indian orgs.

The group has confirmed they will release the first batch of victims they have already compromised in the coming days. These victims are the ones who had already suffered interruptions before the group announced their mission to attack the South Asia region.

The announcement from the group came after their recent attacks against numerous Israeli websites.

The Anonymous Sudan group has recently attacked the websites of multiple significant universities in Israel. The threat group has temporarily shut down one of Israel’s biggest cybersecurity firms, Check Point. The alleged compromised website returned to its standard operations briefly after the attack.

Furthermore, before the attack on the Israeli cybersecurity company, the university websites suffered an attack from the same group and became inaccessible for several hours. The confirmed infected websites for browsing are the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Tel Aviv University, Haifa University, Ben-Gurion University of the Negev, Reichman University, Weizmann Institute of Science, and the Open University of Israel.

Our researchers in iZOOlogic advise everyone, especially Indian organisations, to be more vigilant with their cybersecurity as the hacktivist group could strike at any moment.
