A cyberattack disrupted the streaming platform FuboTV

A cyberattack caused an outage to the streaming platform called FuboTV, which prevented its subscribers from watching the semi-final match of the World Cup 2022 in Qatar.

Last week, the subscribers of the streaming platform were left hanging since FuboTV went down just before the semi-finals match was about to begin.

Based on reports, the users who logged in during the incident encountered the CB_ERR_OPEN error, stating that the downstream is unavailable. Moreover, the affected subscribers could not contact FuboTV’s support team to report the issue since they needed to log on to the website first.

However, FuboTV addressed the issue and took on social media to announce that they are working on it. They also Tweeted that their subscriber should stream the match through Fox as they are doing their investigation.

 

FuboTV confirmed that cybercriminal activity caused the outage.

 

FuboTV admitted that they had become the subject of a cyberattack that disrupted their streaming service.

On their website, the admin explained that a cyberattack disrupted the disrupted semi-final match between Morocco and France. Hence, they apologised to their subscribers regarding the unfortunate incident.

Additionally, the FuboTV team assured everyone that the interruption was unrelated to their bandwidth constraints. Their statement also elaborated that they immediately deployed a response team to address the situation as soon as they detected the attack.

The streaming platform also contacted a third-party cybersecurity researcher to aid them in investigating the attacks. FuboTV also notified law enforcement agencies about the attack.

The platform has yet to disclose any further information about the attack, but they did reveal that their bandwidth is not the issue. Hence, this detail could remove the possibility of a distributed denial-of-service attack.

These types of cyberattacks usually result in the shutdown of Information Technology services to contain a hack since the hackers could continue their ploy for weeks if left unchecked.

Fortunately, FuboTV was able to restore its services quickly due to its investigations.
